I’ve created many blogs over the years, and always felt like I abandoned them. I think its mainly because I felt I had to write for others, and while my interests are varied, it never felt like everything belonged together. I felt noone else had any interest in what I was writing.
But I think what I really need is somewhere to just write a few words here and there, so lets try this again.
The blog is titles Random Island Memories, and a lot of my posts will be about growing up back home on Random Island, but be forewarned, I may veer off on tangents and be prone to rant occasionally.
- Waking up the campAfter a late night at the bonfire at Rickman’s Harbour Pond, with many a beverage in hand, Eric and I are usually the first to stir. Always a morning person, no matter how late the night, I am usually awake with the dawn. Its May 2-4 weekend, Victoria Day, probably …
- Dr. Chase’s AlmanacNowadays we seem to have the Farmer’s Almanac, and maybe we did when I was a boy too, but what I remember most is the Chase’s Almanac. Like all of the, full of anecdotes, and bathroom reading material, and planting times etc. But I think what stood out most were …
- Rolling on the beachIts not the Adele song, its the caplin spawn! About this time of year we start to see caplin coming ashore on the beaches to spawn. Back when I was younger they’d come further up the sound than now, and we’d see tons of them up in Apsey Brook. Didn’t …

Was watching (or trying at least) to watch some sports last night. Harkening back to my love of curling, there’s a tournament in Toronto, and I was expecting coverage. Apparently they aren’t deeming to until Thursday, so be it. But for the love of god, between them TSN and SportsNet have 10 different feeds. Last […]
I can’t say I watch wrestling much anymore, but when I was younger I remember going to some bar or another to watch almost all the major events. I have a memory of this one motel bar out by what used to be the beginning of the divided highway, which was nearly into Kenmount road […]
The NHL announced today it won’t be participating in the next olympics. I get some of the reasons, but I really think it’s short sighted. Yeah it’s in the middle of the season, yeah some of the players could get injured. But they could get injured walking to the rink too. To me the the olympics […]
I’m currently watching the men’s world curling championships. I know a lot of people laugh at the game and can’t seem to follow it, but to me it’s probably my favorite thing to watch. It sounds simple, get your rock as close to the center as you can, and prevent the other team from doing […]
